Hello Dear Wildcat Families
Hello Dear Wildcat Families,
My name is Mrs. Pola Hampton. I am extremely honored to be your child's Structured Learning Lab teacher.
I am also excited to be the Special Education Team Leader for our amazing school!
I have high expectations for all scholars; encouraging scholars to keep trying, pushing scholars to do their best, and celebrating their efforts.
I truly believe that every child can learn in his/her own unique way.
I graduated from the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) with a BBA in Marketing in 1984.
In 2011, I graduated with honors from the University of Phoenix with a Masters in Business Administration.
I am certified in four areas of education:
Special Education: Early Childhood through 12th grade
English as a Second Language
Generalist: Early Childhood Through Sixth Grade
Generalist: Fourth Through Eighth Grade
I am CPR/First Aid/AED Certified.
I am also certified in non-violent crisis intervention.
I am the recipient of the 2011 Region 4 Educator Certification Services Scholarship
I was the Elementary Extended School Year (ESY) Coordinator for my previous district.
I was the 2015 Teacher of the Year for my previous district.
I was the 2015 District Finalist Teacher of the Year for my previous district.
I was featured in the Houston Business Journal- November 12, 2010 Edition as an Outstanding MBA Student.
I was selected as the Outstanding University of Phoenix MBA All-Star Student (2010).
I am also a member of the University of Phoenix "Forever a Phoenix" Scholarship Essay Scoring Committee member.
This is my seventh year of teaching exceptional scholars with special needs.
However, for 15+ years I have helped identify, develop, and implement research-based, best practice programs that address the intellectual, emotional, physical, behavioral, and social development of children.
These endeavors have truly blessed me to nurture and educate our scholars.
Prior to becoming a certified teacher, I was a licensed foster parent to 125+ severely medically fragile children for almost 10 years. These precious children had diagnoses such as terminal cancer, cerebral palsy, blind, deaf, oxygen dependent, seizure disorder, congenital heart, kidney, and liver disease, scoliosis, and totally dependent upon my husband and me for all of their total care.
Prior to becoming a licensed foster parent, I was a statistical analyst for the University of Houston - Main Campus (UH) for 13+ years. I provided data to and worked collaboratively with UH senior administrators including UH's president, provost, college deans, chairpersons, and so forth for use in program evaluations, strategic planning, bench-marking, enrollment projections, trend analysis, and other institutional effectiveness methods.
I also acted as a liaison between UH and various local, state, governmental, and interdisciplinary agencies in the collection, maintenance, and submission of data for UH.
I am married to my amazing husband, Greg. We have a wonderful 17 year-old son, Micah. We also have 3 German Shepherds (dogs): Rodo, Maggie, and Nika. We enjoy spending time as a family and traveling.
I will only be in your child's life for a brief time; as the school years go very fast.
However, I would like to make a meaningful contribution that lasts a lifetime.
I thank you for entrusting me with your precious child and look forward to partnering with you as we soar together; traveling on this wonderful educational journey.
With a servant-leader's heart,
Mrs. Pola Hampton
