"Children might forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel" ~Maya Angelou
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! Please check for weekly updates!
Week of September 25-29
I hope you are enjoying your weekend! I know that I am ready for some cooler weather!!!!!
Here is an insight to what is going on this week in our classroom.
Reading - We are working on using context clues when we come across a word we don’t know. Context + Clues = Clarity
Writing - We will pick one of the small moments we have been brainstorming, and we will take it through the writing process. We will focus on showing our emotions instead of just telling them. For example, instead of just saying I was happy. I could say, my heart was about to explode as I ran down the field into the end zone.
Math - We continuing to study place value up to the thousands place. We will learn about the five ways a number can be written. They are: model form, standard form, expanded form, place value form, and written or number form. Anchor chart picture to come later this week, so you have an example.
Practice math facts at home! The first practice test will come home in your student’s Wednesday folder. It is not for a grade at this until the 2nd nine weeks. There was a lot of improvement this week in the amount of problems missed!
Science - Matter
Social Studies - Reading a Map
The spelling lists for the year are in your students red folder behind the behavior chart.
Parent conference email will be coming out soon
Check grades online for your students most recent grade. If you don’t know how to do that, please send me an email.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Week of September 11-15
I hope you and your family enjoyed this beautiful weekend! Here is what is going on in class this week.
Reading - We are working on creating a picture in our mind while we read. Also, we are thinking of questions we have as we stop and think about the text we are reading. Toward the end of the week we will work on making predictions. These strategies help with comprehension.
Writing - We will begin to brainstorm small moments for our personal narrative paper.
Math - We are working on addition and subtraction strategies. Last week we focused on the part-part whole strategy. Our tests are mainly word problems where students have to picture what is going on in the word problem to solve it. We will practice this a lot this week! We will also review the key-words that signify addition or subtraction! We will not have a test this week, and I will keep you posted when one is coming up.
Science - Science safety and physical properties
Social Studies - Being a good citizen
