I am so excited to be your child's Fourth Grade Math and Science teacher this year at Canyon Pointe Elementary! Fourth grade is such a memorable year for so many reasons. I feel so blessed to be able to share in making amazing memories with my students this year. Starting from the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL your child may bring:

-a water bottle with a sport-top lid (Water only please)

-Two healthy snacks (no peanut products please)

Ways to stay Informed:

-Your child will bring home a Wednesday folder with information about upcoming events at the school and in the community. 

-Subscribe to Remind to receive text messages throughout the year with important information. Text the message @29kadb to the number 81010 to sign up.

Weekly Update 2/24-2/28

In Math this week:
Monday/Tuesday: We will learn about elapsed time and converting time.
Wednesday/Thursday: Review for Measurement Test
Friday: Measurement Test
**I have posted a review and answer key for the test under Math Reviews. You will have to scroll to the bottom of the page. 
**We have been using what we call the STAAR Chart for this unit. It is a chart that they get to use on all tests, and is very helpful for this unit. Here is a copy if they need it for their review: https://tea.texas.gov/sites/default/files/2014-15_RefMat-G4-f.pdf
**If students bring back the review (can be done on lined paper if you do not want to print), they can earn a treat.
 
In Science this week:
We will learn about the Moon Phases.
 
Odds and Ends:
*Spring Pictures are this Thursday.
*Carnival is this Saturday from 12-4. I will not be able to attend because of a prior commitment, but I hope your family is able to make it out. Our PTO has worked very hard to make it a fun day!

Weekly Update 1/27-1/31

Math- We will have a Unit Assessment over Decimal Numbers on Tuesday, January 28th. I am sending home the review we went over in class today. Please use this to study. 
Then we will start learning about Area and Perimeter on Wednesday. 
 
Science- We have began our next unit on Weathering, Erosion and Deposition. We will continue to learn about this topics this week!
 
Notes: If you are planning on attending the Valentine's Party on February 13th from 2:30-3:30 please sign up using the link I have posted on my web page. 
 
Our class will be creating a basket for the CPES Carnival on Saturday, February 29th. Our theme is "All Things Texas A & M". If you would like to donate items to our basket, please send them in with your student.  
 

Weekly Update 1/6-1/10

Welcome Back!
 
I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break. 
 
Math: We are finished with Math Fact Checks!!!
We will continue learning about decimal numbers this week. 
 
Science: We will begin our Water Cycle Unit. 
 
I am looking forward to a seeing all of my amazing students Wednesday morning. 

Weekly Update 12/18-12/20

This Week:
Monday- Grinch Day- wear your favorite Grinch shirt or dress like a Who from Whoville 
Choir participants are off campus.
 
Tuesday- Elf Day- Wear your favorite elf shirt or elf ears
 
Wednesday- Reindeer Day- Wear your favorite reindeer shirt or antlers
 
Thursday- Polar Express Day- Wear school appropriate pajamas and come ready to ride the Polar Express!
 
Friday- Wear your favorite Christmas shirt and come ready to party!
Christmas Party 11:30-12:30 (You can take your child home from the party.)
Early Release- 12:50
Pre-register for the Christmas Party at the link posted on my web page. 
The students are bringing home a letter today about the Christmas Party. Our home room Mom sent an email with a sign up genius to donate items to make our party a success. Let me know if you did not receive it. 
EVERY student needs to bring a TUB of white icing. This will be used as "glue" to hold their Gingerbread house together, so they need a lot.

Weekly Update 12/9-12/13

This week in Fourth Grade:
Math: Last Math Fact Check  (Mixed Division and Multiplication
We will be starting our Unit on decimal numbers. We will be using money to introduce this concept and then move to how decimals and fractions relate to one another. 
 
Science: Monday we will take the Science CBA (there is no study guide for this assessment)
We will continue learning about Natural Resources by looking at different types of soil. 
 
Other: 
Tuesday, December 10th- English Spelling Bee
Thursday, December 12th- Our day to attend the Peppermint Village, please send money in by this day if your child will be purchasing gifts. 
Friday, December 13th- 4th Grade Music Program at 10:00 a.m.
- Wax Museum (Parents do not attend this event)
Saturday, December 14th- Breakfast with Santa at CPES

Weekly Update 12/2-12/6

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This week in Math Science:
Math
We will be using all the concepts we have learned about fractions to solve word problems.
We will be reviewing for our Fraction Test on Friday, December 6th. 
Review will be posted on my web page tomorrow.
 
Science
We will begin our unit of study on Natural Resources this week. 
 
Other
4th Grade Music Program will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13th.
