Weekly Update~ Sept. 11-15

Week of September 11-15

Dear Parents,

I hope you and your family enjoyed this beautiful weekend! Here is what is going on in class this week.

Reading - We are working on creating a picture in our mind while we read.  Also, we are thinking of questions we have as we stop and think about the text we are reading.  Toward the end of the week we will work on making predictions. These strategies help with comprehension.

Writing - We will begin to brainstorm small moments for our personal narrative paper.

Math - We are working on addition and subtraction strategies.  Last week we focused on the part-part whole strategy.  Our tests are mainly word problems where students have to picture what is going on in the word problem to solve it.  We will practice this a lot this week!   We will also review the key-words that signify addition or subtraction! We will not have a test this week, and I will keep you posted when one is coming up.

Science - Science safety and physical properties

Social Studies - Being a good citizen

Important Reminders:

  • Pictures are September 14th!!!! ~ If you have sent a picture envelope into me, please me an email saying that you have.  I want to make sure I get them all and they aren’t lost in a backpack!  If you order online, don’t worry about sending me an email
  • Wednesday folders started going home last week, please return those on Thursday with any forms that need to be returned in it.
  • Red folders will start going home tomorrow.  This is where you will find the behavior chart.  If it is blank, it means no marks were given. If your child receives a mark, please sign it.  This should be checked daily and brought back to school daily.
  • We are starting spelling this week!  Our test will be on Friday.  The words this week have the short “a” and “i” sound.  See below for the first list.  I will put a list in the red homework folder this week.
