Welcome to Mrs. Clark's First Grade Class

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!

In first grade, we strive to prepare your child for the next grade and to develop healthy, study habits in a nurturing environment. If you haven't done so already, please take a moment to sign up for Newsflash/E-Alerts by entering your email address(es) to stay up-to-date on the latest communication. There is a behavior chart that will come home daily with your child in their Take Home folders which should be signed by a parent and then returned the following day. This is just one step in preparing your child for good study skills in the future!

Remember everyday (STARTING ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL) you may bring:
* A Sport-top water bottle (with water ONLY please)
*A healthy snack

Please check out our site for info regarding our class this year--this site will be updated as new information arrives/as needed, so please keep that in mind. More information will be provided as soon as possible through Daily folders, Wednesday folders and Elerts.

Telling Time

Dear Parents,
We are starting a new unit on telling time to the hour and half hour. We are using both analog and digital clocks to tell time. I have sent home a blue folder to practice at home. Please return daily with your child's daily folder. We have also used a website in class that was helpful. http://www.visnos.com/demos/clock

Thank you for all your support,
Kayla Clark

Math Fact Pages Help

Dear Parents,
If you notice your child's Math Fact Page grades are low, it may be a great idea to look at the resources below. It is very important that students can quickly solve simple addition and subtraction facts to help them throughout all the lessons in math.

Letter in Folder

Dear Parents,
Please check your child's folder today. We are sending home an important note regarding the classroom. Please know I have thrown out all the rugs, pillows, and stuffed animals for this reason. Please help prevent this ongoing problem. Please do not send any hats to school for the next few weeks until he have fixed the problem.

Thank you,

Homework this Week

Dear Parents,
We have two more sets of boxes for the November calendar and two more weeks of homework, so we will just continue to use the November calendar. Let's fill up those boxes this month!
Also, please prep for the Parade of Nations for Friday. Dress or bring something to represent a nation of your choice.
Thank you,

Wednesday Folders and Progress Reports

Dear Parents,
Last week was not a good week for first grade. I think almost everyone (including myself and family) got sick. I hope that Monday will bring healthy students and teachers! Tomball ISD had a cleaning crew come out to deep clean our classrooms. Due to my absences last week, the Wednesday folders and Progress Reports were not sent home. I will send them home Monday. Please remember that this is the first of two Progress Reports. If you notice lower grades, please talk to your child about turning in completed, correct work and know that the grades only reflect one or two grades at this time. You child still has many grades to help pull up their averages.
Thank you for all you do!

50th Day of School

I can't believe it, but it is already the 50th Day of School!
To celebrate you can dress in your 50's attire for a Sock Hop on November 1, 2016.

First Grade Field Trip

Dear Parents,

The first grade field trip will be Tuesday, October 25th. Please make sure your child has their permission slip turned in. It is suggested that your child wear navy blue shirts, tennis shoes, and are dressed for the weather on the field trip for safety. They need to have their lunch in a gallon size Ziploc bag with their name labeled on the front of the bag. Make sure to have a drink included. It is highly suggested that you send a snack in a separate bag they can leave at school for when we return. The buses will leave at 8:40 so please make sure your child is at school on time.

For parents attending:
If you have been contacted and will be attending the field trip as a parent chaperone, please send your $8 to cover your admission in ASAP. You will need to meet us here at 8:10 to sign in and be in our classroom before Rise and Shine. Make sure you are cleared by the district to volunteer at our school and you have transportation to and from Dewberry Farm. Please remember, your child will need to ride the bus to and from the field trip.

Thank you,
First Grade Teachers

Parent-Teacher Conferences

I will be sending out an e-mail this week to set up times for Parent-Teacher conferences. Please sign up for a time that works for you. I will be having meetings throughout the month of October.

Community Helper Project

The Community Helper Project has been postponed for October 10, 2016. If you are a community helper and would like to come and speak to our class we would love that! Please e-mail or call me and we can set up arrangements. Thank you!

Community Helpers Social Studies Project

In Social Studies, we will be learning about community helpers. We have an interview project that is going home in their folders today. This needs to be completed by Monday, October 3, 2016 for a daily grade. I hope this is a fun experience for both you and your child. I will send home the rubric also so you can know what we are looking! Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you for all that you do,
Kayla Clark
